Doctor Who Experience

E2 Consultants were commissioned by Lancashire-based company Collinson plc to provide Air Leakage Testing to the Doctor Who Experience building based at its temporary home in Cardiff Bay.

The building is thought to be one of the first of its kind to be used for an exhibition centre; the frame is constructed using steel beams, with a cover stretched over the entire building giving it the appearance of a giant tent.

A pre site inspection was carried out prior to the testing to highlight potential problem areas and leakage points, a detailed report was supplied to the contractor in order for these areas to be rectified as part of the Taylor made testing package to assist in getting the best possible result.

The testing was carried out in May 2012 and the building achieved a pass. The Experience opened in Cardiff in July 2012 and quickly become the place to go for Doctor Who fans from all over the world. It was leased to the City Council for five years to enable its relocation from Olympia to Cardiff.

The building contains 4181m” of internal space which in addition to the main exhibition hall incorporates a first floor mezzanine and two storey accommodation comprising reception area, café, classroom, kitchen, washrooms and offices.

Today takes 2 of our engineers, air testing this enormous modular classroom in Tring, It took 4 fans to test this space and unfortunately resulted in a Fail. Remedial sealing will be required to areas that we have identified as leaking cold air infiltration. #preperationiskey
