Ben Ainslie Racing HQ
The Ben Ainslie racing HQ based in Old Portsmouth is an innovative sustainable purpose built building, incorporating a Tech Deck education centre.
E2 Consultants were employed to carry out the air leakage testing to the building as part of the final Building Control sign off and certification for the project.
In accordance with the BAR team’s sustainability goals, the building was designed to achieve a BREEAM Excellent standard, in order to achieve this level an air test result was required to achieve below 3 m3/ (hr*m2) @ 50 Pa.
As part of the air testing program, E2 Consultants initially performed a drawing review to provide advice and consultation; this was combined with a pre-test site visit by one of our experienced air tightness testers.
A detailed report highlighting areas of concern and potential air leakage infiltration points was produced prior to the testing taking place.
The air tightness testing took place in the summer of 2015 and in nautical terms it was plain sailing, the target results were achieved.
Construction work started in July 2014, with the building becoming fully operational in June 2015. The building was designed by the same team responsible for Portsmouth’s iconic Spinnaker Tower at Gunwharf Quay.
